Scrap Matrix - Just because I have a new stencil

Hello again Scrappy people, I have a new stencil from

Scrap Matrix and couldn't wait to have a play.

The stencil is from The Crafter's Workshop,

Mini Art Deco Leaves.

I used a heavy weight Watercolor paper, because I wanted to create 
a mixed media background on some cards.

I thought the stencil would work well with some 

Tim Holtz Paper Dolls which appear to be from the same Vintage.

Don't this pair look cool dressed in their best bib and tucker?  They could be off to listen to music at their local Jazz club.

I made a 6"x6" card which I thought would be perfect for an 

engagement or wedding card.

The Chartreuse green reminds me of the colours from that era.

First I smooshed some Tim Holtz Oxides (Peeled Paint, Twisted Citron and Iced Spruce) onto a craft mat before spritzing them with water.

With the watercolor paper slightly damp, I swished it through the inks, until I was happy with the blending.

I placed the stencil on top & scraped Liquitex white gesso through it

after masking off the edges.  Whoops, forgot to photograph that bit!

Before removing the stencil, I sprinkled some Gold embossing powder randomly over the leaves, then set the powder with a heat tool.

I added a title with Tim Holtz words & some Prills 

to "ground" the people.

When I'm making a mess, I always try to make several cards; 

it makes the inky hands and messy desk worthwhile!

For this card, I applied the gesso through the stencil first.

While still wet I added some Mica Fragments & dried them.

Then I sprayed with Dylusions Ink, Polished Jade & Calypso Teal.

The result is a lot looser look, as the gesso softens again.

The angels wings are from Scrap Matrix; I smooshed them with 
Tim Holtz Oxide, Antique Linen. 

I finished the card with a gold border using a die from my stash
and added a Tim Holtz word, which I also smooshed with ink.

Welcome back to the Scrap Matrix challenge where this month

the theme is "How sweet it is"

You might be inspired by the colours, or the photos on the Gelati bright mood board; you might want to record a sweet moment; what ever floats you boat, but do let us know what inspired your project.

I chose to scrap a photo of one of my little Garden helpers.

My plan was to create a background using my Gel Plate with 
the lusciously creamy, Dylusions paints and some stencils.

I added small dabs of paint onto the Gel Plate.

Using a brayer, I spread them out, trying not to blend them too much.

Next, I added a stencil from my stash, then I placed a piece of  white card stock on the top.  Using my hand, I rubbed the card firmly, to ensure contact with the paint, before gently peeling it off to reveal the pattern it created.

  

The first pull was a bit dark, but I really liked this second one.
Having allowed the paint to dry, I added some more Teal paint through a stencil, trying to pick up the colour of the bucket.

Now to colour the chipboard.

First I tried painting the chipboard hearts with Squeezed Orange Dylusions, but I didn't like the look with the pink flowers in the photo. 


So I tried the Bubble Gum Pink. 

Nup! Toooo pink.   How about some over stamping? Don't think so!

 What about some Gold Wax?   Yuk!  Going from bad to worse!
Why am I boring you with all my fails you might ask?  Just to prove that the Blue Fern Chipboard is so sturdy it will stand up to anything and not distort or warp. 

Then I remembered an embossing powder which might mute the colour and add some black and gold.  It went seamlessly over all the layers and finally I had a look I was happy with. What do you think?   

I stamped some triangles and a square on the first Gel Plate Pull, cut them out and tucked them under the photo for a bit of definition.

To finish off, I added a bit of stamping to echo the colour of the chipboard and scattered a few prills inside the hearts.  The tiny flowers are from my stash.

This little boy loved watering the flowers every time he came with his twin to spend the day with us.  I notice he just got his undies on; it must have been one of his "No, no, Granny, no shorts" days!

Scrap Matrix DT July 2018 - How sweet it is

Welcome back to my blog today. I'm sharing my take on the 
Scrap Matrix challenge for July
 We have a gorgeous mood board to inspire you.

We've had a change of dates for the challenges; they now start on the first of the month and run for the entire month.

Why not check out the fantastic projects by the rest of the team.

I love these bright colours and was inspired by the heart shape on the mood board to use some heart shaped chipboard which has been sulking in my stash for a while now!

It was delighted to come out and play.

I decided to scrap this sweet photo of my Granddaughter; 

she has a special place in my heart with her love of creating and her free, independent spirit.

Using this flamboyant stamp from Prima, I stamped it on white card stock, fussy cut the flowers and then painted them with Dylusions paints, before adding some little shimmery bits in the centre.

First I chose a white background as a foil for the bright colours.

The Heart chipboard is from Blue Fern.  It comes in a big piece which I randomly cut into bits with a Prima craft knife and prepped with white gesso.  Thinking I wanted to add some stamping, I tried various spots and colours on scraps of paper, before committing to the layout. 

I added some green Dylusions paint to the heart chipboard as a foil to the bright pink and orange.  Still playing around with possible stamp colours.  I like the brown the best.

 I thought the green needed toning down a bit, so I added some wet embossing and some gold wax.  Can you tell by now, that I'm making it up as I go along? !

I'm never quite sure what's happening until it's finished.

I chose this stamp to emphasize the flowers on her face.

Added a couple of stamps for a title and a comment.

Nearly there, but I'm not happy with the bottom right corner.

What should I do without wrecking the whole thing?

The addition of an extra green heart, the gold butterfly, the micro beads, the enamel dots and the tiny star flower stamp all satisfied my urge to "fiddle" and  it's complete. (For the moment - I have been known to come back the next day and start again!)

Kraft+ DT - July - Weaving

Hello again Scrappy Friends, welcome; today I'm sharing a DT post for 

Kraft+

The challenge is to have some weaving on your page.  
It can be with paper, ribbon, string, fabric, anything you choose, 
but let us see the weaving and of course it needs to be on Kraft.

I chose to scrap this school photo of my Granddaughter, as I'd decided to weave with denim and the colour of her uniform worked well with her Grandfathers old gardening jeans.  I ripped them into strips, frayed the edges of the denim and ironed some fabric stabilizer on the back to hold the weaving in the heart shape.

The kitty embellishment is from Charms creations; 
perfect for this girl, as she is passionate about all things feline.

I blanket stitched around the edge of the heart with some DMC thread and while I had it out, I stitched a few wonky daisies to go with the stamping.

The wild child embellie, the teal and yellow papers, as well as the star are from 
Crate Paper, "Cool kid" collection.  The yellow doily is a scrap left over from another layout.

The stamps are possibly one of the first sets I bought, over a decade ago; they are by "Bloom builder stamps".  I used Tim Holtz distress oxide inks to stamp them.

The denim flag is from Charms Creations too and the brad is from Teresa Collins.

The chipboard is from 2 Crafty, an older piece, 
I treated it with Stampendous "Aged Taupe" embossing powder 
which has a bit of blue in it IRL.

Scrap the Boys DT - July 2018 Love you to the moon and back

Hello Scrappy Friends, welcome back to my blog today where I'm sharing a DT layout for

Scrap the Boys.

 The challenge is to use this mood board to scrap about about the boy/s (of any age) in your life.

The stars can be any colour and  you can use any theme.
I chose this cheeky photo of one of my Grand Boys.

The paper is new to me, it kinda jumped into my basket along with the chipboard embellishments!

Does that ever happen to you ?  I sometimes have difficulty finding fun and original papers for Boys, so this collection really appeals to me.  It's by My Mind's Eye, "Blast Off"

The cut file is from Silhouette "Star Wreath"

The journalling is on the back of the page and it reads:
We had a day out with you and your brothers last winter and decided to visit Port Adelaide to see the old ship "The Failie" and the "Adelaide" as well as some of the old buildings.
I was hoping we'd find some graffiti too, as a colourful backdrop to some photos.
Nothing like having a few pics ready for scrapping.
It was a very cold day; not comfortable at all for strolling about, so we cut short the expedition and headed for hot soup and crusty rolls at home.  17th July 2017, Love Granny.
