91 CSI Challenge - In this House Memories are created

As soon as I saw the testimony for this week, I knew what I wanted to write about.  Then it was just a matter of photographing my favourite things and it all came together with the help of this fabulous sketch from Scrap Friends.
They have great sketches, with lots of originality and flair. Here is the link.

Scrap Around the World September Challenge

This is the September challenge at Scrap around the world.
I loved the drama and flair of the mood board and decided to scrap an older photo.
I was inspired by the lacy look of the face paininting on the model.
http://scraparoundtheworld.blogspot.com.au/2013/09/september-2013-challenge-5-bold-graphic.html
The sketch I used by rotating once to the right
There were a lot of stylized flowers around in the 70's as well as  rich magentas and apricot colours, so I played with stamps and gelatos to try and achieve the look of the time.
A closie to show the bling the heart and the lace

Heritage - For Meg's Garden Design Team

I have really enjoyed using these beautiful papers from Meg's Garden. They were perfect with this vintage photo of my Husband's Grandfather. I used "The Roadster's front seat blanket" for the back ground paper.  The red flowers and swirls were fussy cut from "Take a roadster for a spin" and the vintage roadster was cut from the extra strip of the same paper.  The cream leaves were die cut from the cream centre of that same paper.  Meg's Garden stocks the die;
it's by Cottage Cutz, Leafy foliage.

90 - CSI Challenge - Rock On

The inspiration photo this week really made me smile; what a cool cat!  However I was struggling to find the right photo until our Grandson came to visit wearing his new top.  Ta Da!!! I was off and running.  My page was inspired by a layout I saw when net surfing.  Unfortunately I didn’t book mark it and created it from what I remember.  I’d like to credit the artist for the inspiration and apologise that I am unable to do so.

TESTIMONY
I went to Mama Kat’s pretty much world famous writing prompts and chose to write about  what I’m grateful for and what I miss.  The journalling reads.

It was my lucky day when you came to visit wearing your new top.   The colours were perfect for this page I was creating.  All we needed was a photo prop and we found these cute glasses for you to wear.  They kept sliding down off your nose and we thought we might have to tie them on with string.  Now that you are a big school boy, we miss having you come to spend the day with us.
Love Granny

89 CSI Challenge XO

I absolutely loved the beautiful colours this week which were just right for these photos of the twins.   I used a mixture of older Making Memories and Kaisercraft papers and new Carta Bella.

Why not pop over to CSI and have a look at the examples created by the design team.

This little one is so adventurous he is often bruised and scabby
It doesn't slow him down though

TESTIMONY
I chose to use the fantastic, fun, art words as inspiration for my journalling

The journalling is on the back of the page and it reads

These photos were taken back in January around the time of your second birthday.  You stayed with us for the weekend while you parents flew interstate for a family wedding. After breakfast there was no time to get dressed before you dashed outside to play.   You unleashed your inner artists by using the black board and some coloured chalk.  Once the board was full of scribble, you attacked each other with the chalk.  Bare skin makes the best canvas!  Then, suitably decorated with wode like true Scotsmen, you cavorted on the garden seat, jumped onto the play table and tried to climb into the laundry window. What a fantastic fun game you created with just a stick of chalk.   You discoverd by clicking two sticks of chalk together, that a fine dust collects on the bricks.  Activate this with a bit of spit and Voila, you have finger paint. I love to watch you interact and learn from each other; you truly are the best of friends.  Love Granny photos Jan 1013

88 - CSI Challenge - Life Lessons

http://csicolorstoriesinspiration.ning.com/forum/topics/case-file-no-88-case-closes-on-september-15-2013

These colours were super challenging for me this week and I probably would have been tempted to ditch this layout and start again if I had another day to play with.  Part of that is my personal aversion to the Autumnal tones. Part is the dodgy photo, but it’s about the only one I have of that time.....still the story is told I must give thanks to Debbi, who week after week, provides these superb challenges, not just the colours, but the journalling prompts, which somehow flick a switch in the subconscious and tap into rich veins of memory.  I don’t know how you do it Debbi, but I love CSI  and all your efforts to make it run like clockwork.   Thank you

TESTIMONY
I chose to write about something I’ve learned.  The journalling reads.

When I look at this photo, taken at the beginning of my Nursing Training, I had no idea how much hard yakka would be involved in finishing the course.  I soon learned to survive twelve hour shifts; to endure the interminable night duty, and with a Senior Nurse, to run a small hospital at night.  Matron was on call, but we were trusted to do everything else; the turning and pressure care of bed ridden patients; the monitoring of babies in the nursery and gavaging of those too weak to suck;  the dispensing of medications; the care of the dying and laying out of the dead.

When Matron sat me at the dining room table, with one arm in a sling and eyes blindfolded, I learned to place the food tray within reach of the patient and ask if they’d like some help to eat. I learned to treat each patient with dignity and kindness. I understood it was O.K. to cry when a local man was scooped off the road in fragments and couldn’t be cobbled together again.

I learned to be calm in emergencies; to see a crisis in the making and take steps to avert it. Most of all I recognized that a career in Nursing was not for sissies. The hours were long and the pay was a pittance, but the rewards were enormous.  To see a critical patient restored to health, to witness the miracle of birth and to hold the hand of the dying, was an honour and a privilege.

When patients, no matter how old, are in pain and afraid, they often call for their Mothers.  I learned to understand their need; to sit, listen to their fear, not offering solutions, but simply being fully present.  The black and white certitudes of my youth melted away by exposure to life in the raw and I realized the more I learned, the less I knew.  Most things I used to fret about don’t really matter. I’ve learned to “BE” in the moment, to enjoy the shenanigans of the Grandchildren; to bask in the warmth of my family’s love and to count my blessings every day.  Journalling September 2013
