Scrapmatts June creating - Once upon a time and Cool Kid

Hello and welcome back to my blog.
I have two pages to share with you today.

I had the pleasure of the company of our Grandsons over the school holidays
and am now lucky enough to have a few new photos to scrap.

First up is one of the six year olds dressed in his King's cape.
Still on my stash busting strategy, I used one of my favourite collections from
Simple Stories - "Say Cheese."
This CHIPBOARD TITLE seemed perfect for dress up play - I left it raw.
I cut into the STICKS and scattered them around under the photos.
The DELIGHT title is from a word pack.

The journalling is on the back of the page and it reads.

You came to visit on your own one day and asked if I'd be able to make you a cape.
"Hmmm - possibly - What sort of a cape?"
"Well the kind that an important King would wear"
"OK - what colour capes do Kings wear these days"
"I think a bright red"
"Well I don't have any red fabric"
"How about in your scrap room Granny?"
"No - not even in my scrap room, would you like to go to Spotlight and look for some?"
"Yes please Granny - could we go right now?"

So off we went, found just the right material, plus some black cord to tie it at the neck.
When you noticed the fabric was rectangular you got a bit concerned,
asking how it was going to end up the right shape.

"We will have to cut it into shape."
"But how will you know how to do that Granny?"
"My Mother taught me how."
"But she's dead isn't she?"
"Yes, she is, but I can still remember what to do."
"Well you must have a good memory, because that was long, long ago in the olden days!"

So we cut it out, you helped me pins the hems, we threaded the cord through
and you were pretty chuffed with the finished garment.

Do you remember what happened next? You asked me,
"Granny, do you know how to make a gold crown?"
"Yes, I think so"
So we quickly made one and you went home with a Gold crown decorated with bling.

The next layout is combined with the CSI challenge 231
which Scrapmatts is generously sponsoring.

The idea is to use all the colours, at least three of the evidence clues
and at least one of the testimony clues.

Evidence :- White background, Stripes, Animals, Twine, Stars, Hearts, Puffy stickers.
Testimony:-  I chose to write about this Boy's super power which is his incredible memory for facts, figures and details about his current passions, which are Football and Cricket.

I used some older scraps again. The red plane paper is from Echo Park, "Game Plan"

The background was given the star treatment by adding texture paste
through  STENCIL STARS and splashing some Oxide paint on top.

The blue and turquoise clouds are from Jillibean Soup, "Chit chat chowder"
The fabric heart is from Charms Creations.
The little yellow dog and word stickers are by Crate Paper, "Cool kid"
I heat embossed the STRING CIRCLES

I'm a big fan of the ALPHABET FLAGS, I think they look great on a Boy's page.

The journalling is on the back of the page and it reads:-

You are never a big fan of having your photo taken, like Pa, you find it hard to relax and act naturally when the lens is pointed at you.   I took a lot of photos and when we looked at them together, neither of us liked what we saw.   When I asked if we could try again, you reluctantly agreed and I distracted you talking about Richmond, your beloved Football team and a couple of your heros, Jack Riewoldt and Dustin Martin.  You became quite animated and I captured your lovely smile.  You are fascinated by Footy and Cricket at the moment and have a phenomenal memory for the details of the game; who is playing whom, how much each team wins by and where they are on the ladder.

  10. Oh oh oh oh, how I love this! I made very similar capes for my boys with appliqued initials on the back (super hero - not stately... lol). Someone gave me some satin and I used seam binding for the cord. My first attempt at applique and I used yellow gold thread to outline the black letters. We were so poor and I was determined to handmake all of the kids a gift that year to give them a bigger present pile. Sweet memories. I loved his comment on the olden days - kids! And my oldest is the same with photos, it stresses him out. Such a good read and gorgeous layouts today! So sorry I have been amiss, but am thrilled to be visiting again. Hugs, Autumn
