TESTIMONY
I was inspired by the words READ and SIMPLE
You have always been fascinated with alphabet books.  You have your favourites which you read over and over when you come to visit.  Now that you are six and in Grade 1, you seem slightly less content with what’s on the bookshelf and ask what is new.  Last week, for the first time ever, you were a bit bored.  We offered to take you to the library, but it was 43 degrees, so we decided against it.  “How about we play Boggle, Rummiking, Monopoly, Scrabble?”  “Not really thanks Granny, I’d like to do something with Alphabets.”   I suggested, “How about we make an alphabet book?”  Your eyebrows rose quizzically “How could we do that?”  I found an exercise book and an old magazine.  We wrote a letter at the top of each page and then flicked through the magazine, identifying and writing down the objects we found.  Such a cheap and simple game and you loved it.  To be continued............Love Granny

  4. Gorgeous page and such a lovely story! you amaze me each time with your stories, and I love reading them :). Your GS sounds a very clever and charming boy.
As for your layout - at first I thought it's digital... LOL the sprays as background for the photo look great! this piece give a feeling of a child playing with colors. I'm sure you've enjoyed it :).
Thank you for sharing and for so much inspiration.

  6. Such an adorable page for such an adorable little boy! Your grandson and Joe are exactly the same age and so I can relate to this page sooo much! Beautiful photo and love that watercolour matting....just beautiful! Love your journalling too and love that clever little game that you thought up.
Joe and I sit and do his homework every afternoon and we read a story every night before he goes to sleep! I am so pleased that books interest him and love that he already recognises words that we read....so exciting for him and very exciting for me!!

  7. Like Libeeti, at first glance I also thought that perhaps you had ventured into the world of digi layouts, and even though I am having fun with the mixed media look this is still my favourite style. Crisp, clean and linear. :) I love that watercolour mat behind the photo and I love that you are putting up all these things to entertain your grandies ;) I am making notes. I had my first babysitting gig yesterday and got to feed Paige. She is a little doll and apart from a very unsettled first night settled in nicely. Anyway I digress :) this is a fabulous layout Helen and your love for your grandies shines like a beacon. :D

  8. Like Libeeti, at first glance I also thought that perhaps you had ventured into the world of digi layouts :) it is so perfectly balanced and I love the bright colours especially the watercolour wash behind the photo. I am so glad that you are doing layouts on things you do to entertain your grandies... I am taking notes :) I got to do my first babysitting gig yesterday and loved it. Paige had a very unsettled first night which is understandable - she is such a doll. I can't wait for Spencer to come home now. Thank you for sharing this wonderful layout Helen. Your love for all your grandies shines like a beacon ...xox
