Scrap Matrix DT - Ranger challenge Feb 2018

A huge thank you to Vicki Christensen, for the opportunity to design with the Scrap Matrix team.  I’m super excited to be part of such a talented group and to support a local South Australian business.

The challenge this month is to use all things Ranger.  There's a huge amount to choose from.   I hope you will join in, using a product from Vicki's gorgeous store Scrap Matrix at Encounter Bay.

Now for my first project, which is an Art Journal page.

I started with a white page, in my Dina Wakley Media Journalwhich I coated with Ranger white gesso, to stop the media seeping through. Blank pages can be a bit daunting, so my approach is the dive right in and make a mess some marks!
So I dipped my fingers into some creamy Dylusions paints and rubbed them over the page, blending them as I went.  I used Laid Back Lilac, Funky Fuchsia, Periwinkle Blue and White Linen.
Adding more layers to increase the intensity of the colours.
To add texture I swiped Distress Crackle Paint, Clear Rock Candy through a Tim Holtz Stencil, “Splash”   I like the way it cracks and also takes on the colour of the paint underneath.
The white gesso was added through a Tim Holtz Burlap stencil.
I added the Art Journal stamp at the top and some stamping from the same set (Dylusions stamps, Inbetweenies- DYR34575) along the side, using Tim Holtz Jet Black Archival Ink. The words are from Dina Wakley Stamps, (Handwritten Quotes MDR44475)
Wanting to add more colour and patterns I sponged some Oxides through a Tim Holtz stencil Set 27
Because I didn't have an idea to begin with, I fished through my stamps to see what would go with these quotes and found my little birds.  Dylusions Stamps, "Put a bird on it", They just look so cheery, I thought they’d be right at home on the colourful background.
Using a Tim Holtz stamp press, I got a crisp, clean stamped finish which
I then fussy cut and painted the birds with Distress Oxides,
Walnut Stain
Peeled Paint
Broken China
Peacock Feathers
Fired Brick
Iced Spruce
Twisted Citron
I glued the birds in place with Tim Holtz Multi Medium Matte.
Finally I added the flowers through a Tim Holtz stencil very similar to this.

Thanks for calling in, I hope you found something to inspire you.
Be sure to check out the Scrap Matrix blog in a day or so,
for another Design Team Project.

Stuck?! Sketches DT 15 Feb 2018 - Sweet Memories

Welcome back to my blog today where I’m sharing a DT layout for

At the risk of boring you rigid by using Cocoa Vanilla, “Bohemian Dreams” yet again, I’ve chosen to do just that.  The lush florals and dreamy watercolor ombres really float my boat.

The lace trim is from my stash, I think it's from Kaisercraft.
The cut file is from the Cut Shoppe; it's called Flower Power.
I absolutely love these hand made hearts from Charms Creations
I think they combine beautifully with the floral paper.
The journalling is on the back of the page and it reads:-
We were all on a beach holiday when this photo was taken at the end of last year.
Your other Grandfather dropped you off at our beach house while he took Alfie, your dog, for a walk.  Even though you don't see us frequently, you were quite happy to stay with us and you enjoyed playing with your big Cousin and with Pa.  Love Granny  31st Dec 2017.

Scrap the Boys DT 6 Feb 2018 - Combined with Stick it Down challenge.

Hello and welcome back to my blog, where today I am sharing a  layout for Scrap the Boys which is a combined challenge with Stick it Down challenge site.
The wonderful sketch is by Laura Rumble who is offering two free cut files which you can find
We hope you will be inspired to play along.

Just this once, because of the style of the challenge, we are able to use some feminine content on the page and I've chosen to scrap about one of our Grand Boys playing with his little Girl Cousin.

I used the cut file provided and enjoyed using some older stash with it.

The background paper is by BoBunny. It's called Secret Garden.
The purple heart paper and the pink inserts are both older collections from Maja.
I scrounged around and found a tiny bit of vellum, circa 2000, with which I created the shaker heart.

The title is from Tim Holtz, Quote Chips.
I stamped some flowers to make a cluster and added the purple bow from D'Lish Scraps

The doodling around the edge of the heart was to soften and blend it with the vellum.
The journalling is on the back of the page and it reads:-

You spent time with your big cousins recently on a beach holiday.
Oliver was gentle with you, as you showed him how you can climb in and out of the pusher
and how you can wheel your chariot around and around in endless circles.
You don't get to see each other often, as you live so far away,
but that makes the times spent together even more precious.

I appreciate your kind comments and so enjoy reading them.  Thank you.

Stuck?! Sketches! DT - 1st Feb 2018 - Wild Child

One more share today, as it's the start of the month.
A design team layout for
STUCK?! SKETCHES!

My favourite paper collection at the moment is by Cocoa Vanilla and I've used "Bohemian Dreams" again for these sweet photos of my DGD.
The collection has ephemera and a sticker sheet, for easy co-ordinating.
I love how the butterfly matches her top so well.
I added a bit of zig-zag stitching the join the floral and pink papers.

The cut file is "Hello Hearts, from The Cut Shoppe; a popped a few sequins on to add a touch of shimmer.  They are from Pretty Pink Posh, "Spring time mix"

Thanks for calling in, I hope you will play along and be eligible for one of these lovely prizes.

Scrap the Boys DT - Explore, Dream, Discover

It's the first of February and time for the new DT at
Scrap the Boys
to reveal their interpretations of this challenge.
I hope you will be inspired to play along with this month.
The theme is the Great Outdoors; the words can also be used to inspire,
but you are not restricted to creating in blue - use any colour/s that suit your theme.

I chose to scrap a recent photo of our Grand Boys at Marion Bay.
They spent hours running in and out of the sea, jumping, squealing, laughing and occasionally pondering about life, the universe and more important matters such as when the food would be ready and what was happening at the Test Cricket.

 My aim was to create a sense of space and freedom by extending the photo;
blending it into the page and into the horizon.
The background painting was done on watercolor paper with Tim Holtz Distress Oxides.
I added some Marine themed Chipboard from Scrapmatts.
The foreground was created with Prills, sequins and Mini Art Stones from Prima.
The metal seahorse and the anchor are from my stash.

I enjoy reading your comments and appreciate you leaving them.  Thank you.

Kraft+ DT February 2018 - Thank you for the music

Hello again Scrappy Friends, welcome; today I'm sharing a DT post for
Kraft+
The challenge is to be inspired by anything related to ABBA.
I absolutely loved the graphic designed by the Uber talented Amanda Hall and had a lovely time strolling down memory lane, listening to all the Abba songs.
I finally settled on “Thank you for the music” as it seemed to fit so well with my photo.
I used 7 Dots, “Paint Chips” paper to create the layers, adding some stamping and paint splashes.  Love that square stamp, it’s by Carabelle Studio  “Les Geometriks”   The patterned paper and the stamp are available from SCRAP MATRIX at Victor Harbour.  They are proud sponsors of Kraft+.
The little wooden birds remind me of the way the children all come running when the food is served.  They are from Studio Calico, as are the cork chevrons.
The flair is from Funky Flairs. It's a bit hard to read but it says "we are all meant to shine"
The enamel dots are from Doodlebug (yellow) and Prima (green)
Inspired again by Amanda's graphics, I made the acetate letters and coloured them with alcohol inks.

The journalling is on the back of the page and it reads:-
I was lucky enough to capture of photo of you with most of your cousins in the park recently. The big kids play so well together, chatting, chirping, laughing and just occasionally disagreeing.  They are fascinated by you and very gentle with you; they enjoy watching you learn and are delighted if they get you to smile at them.  The sounds of childhood are like music to my ears; a joyful sound which seems to signal hope for the future.
